Sally Tuffin
Sally Tuffin was to start the
Poole pottery studio which was re-established from 1995 this was born from the idea of the original 1960's studio by Robert Jefferson and Guy Sydenham which was was then highly successful and commands very high prices on todays market. Keeping this in mind Sally Tuffin and other artists and designers were asked to create new handcrafted designs in limited editions and for sale to the collectors club keeping them exclusive made them more desirable to the collector.
Sally Tuffin was the perfect person to join this team as she was trained in the Royal College of Art and was well known for her textile and fashion designs she had proved herself in the design of many Moorcroft pieces and was also successful with her husbands company the Dennis China Works.
So she was to create distincitive designs for Poole pottery being next to the Quay side at the time she was often influenced by the maritime which is seen within a lot of her designs as shown when she was commissioned by British airways for the blue Poole pottery design of dolphins and fish. She designed the Poole pottery blue design and it was launched in 1997 by Sally Tuffin, The Lady Mayor of Poole and Peter Mills this was when the British Airways Aircraft had the tailplane designed as part of the new livery and Karen Brown went on to paint the vases with the same design.
Some of her designs for Poole pottery proved more popular than others the Parasols design for 1996 did not prove a big hit but this just made it rarer as not as many were sold to the Collectors club.
