Karen Brown
Karen brown was born in 1950's and joined
Poole pottery in 1973 she started decorating in the traditional style but was really interested in the freehand designs. You can see from her work that she is very experimental and this shows with her designs and colour schemes.
She is known more for her work in the 1990's and mostly produced for the
Poole pottery collectors club there was the Isle of Purbeck studio collection produced in 1997 to 1998 consisting of Old Harry rocks and corfe castle which are both now hard to obtain and are commanding high prices a Corfe castle vase can command up to £200.00. The Old harry rocks 16 inch Large dish was made in a limited edition of 100 and commands in excess of £250.00 all of these was made on white earthenware and are very abstract in there designs.
Another of hers from the
Poole pottery Purbeck series is Viking this is brightly coloured and a beautiful design that is elaborate and busy with flowing blocks of colour, again the large 16 inch dish was made in a limited edition and gets very good money.
Karen Brown is a great artist and truelly sought after by
Poole pottery collectors and with her recent departure to form her own studio 'Karen Brown studio' her work is rising in price so she is definately one to collect for the future while she is still affordable so a top tip from KCSceramics.
